The Little Theatre has brought plays and events to the people of the Gulf Coast since 1946. The Playhouse in the Pines, built from surplus World War II barracks, was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. A structure with a starring role in the film “This Property is Condemned” has been restored within the historic Depot District.
During filming of the 1965 movie, gingerbread trim was added to establish an atmosphere of faded elegance. Much of this was left in place; it was not original to the building and was removed during the restoration.
The theatre renovation is pursuing LEED-Gold. The use of reclaimed material, improvements to the building envelope, and energy-efficient HVAC systems and lighting improved the overall efficiency.
