As a critical part of the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, the Marine Education Center serves the University of Southern Mississippi Coastal Sciences Department in teaching about coastal habitats, processes, flora, and fauna, especially of the Gulf of Mexico region.  The site is at the edge of the marsh and bayou in Cedar Point near Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

The program includes exhibits, administrative spaces, conference facility, laboratories, classrooms, catering facilities, and a sequence of outdoor pavilions and boardwalks.  The project targeted LEED Silver rating.
